An interesting day

Well, most of you won't know this, but I currently have a regular order for cakes at the local deli in Aldridge called Simply Delicious.

I might provide them with a carrot cake or two, chocolate fudge cake, Victoria sponge cake or chocolate fridge cake.

Today I asked how my chocolate fridge cake (from the Hummingbird bakery cookbook) went down. The answer was good, but they wondered whether I could make it look a little prettier.

I thought fridge cake was supposed to be a little "rustic".

I will now have to think of a way of making my fridge cake "pretty".

  2. Thanks - Fridge cake is basically, broken biscuits, golden syrup, butter, raisins and cocoa powder.

Melt the syrup, butter & cocoa and then mix with the rest of the ingredients.

Put it in a large tray and compact it as much as possible and then place in the fridge for a couple of hours (or overnight).

There are many versions - the one I like is from the Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook.

I have 1 cafe and 1 deli who take regular orders from me, which means I make a steady 4 to 5 cakes a week (equivalent to about 50 cupcakes).

Look out for another post coming in the next day or so called the "tipping point" which is brewing in my head at present.

  3. Alright I see maybe a more rustic cake it is. Maybe they should request a different cake if they want a more attractive cake. Thats great though with already doing business with two places. I will be back I like reading about your home baking business.
